4. February 2023. For the finissage of THE ECCENTRIC 80s, ITINERANT INTERLUDE #88 presented performances by two experimental sound artists who, with their respective media, created new works to reflect upon and celebrate the spirit of the eccentric creatives at the focus of this show.

Throughout her artistic career, vocal artist Ute Wassermann has continued to undermine common gender norms in her singing. Her adventurous and virtuosic vocal explorations oscillate between the electronic, in/organic, human and animal in an art that merges improvisation, composition, and sound/performance art. Her voice morphs with the sound of bird whistles and percussion objects, transforming and dissolving into an otherworldly language.

Utilizing various mixing techniques and cutups, JD Zazie payed homage to new-wave and punk music performed by women (and with bands led by women) during the 80s. Her utterly danceable set featured tracks by Poison Girls, Vivien Goldman, Ludus, The Raincoats, Bonnie Hayes, X-Ray Spex, Lene Lovich, Au Pairs, Mo-dettes, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Blondie, The Slits, Bags, and Patty Smith (to name but a few).

The Eccentric 80s was curated by Ergül Cengiz, Burcu Dogramaci, Philipp Gufler, Mareike Schwarz, and Angela Stiegler.

Ute Wassermann is a vocal artist, composer and improviser. She tours worldwide as vocalist, creates audio-visual performances and composes for soloists and ensembles. Wassermann has premiered countless works with renowned ensembles and orchestras. Her music has been released on mode, nurnichtnur, creative sources, ABC Classic, Psi, treader, and olof bright.

JD Zazie is an experimental DJ, avant-turntablist and sound artist based in Berlin. Coming from a DJ and radiophonic background, Zazie explores different approaches to real-time manipulation of fixed recorded sound, stretching the boundaries of what may be defined as DJ Mixing, free improvisation, and composed music. Touring regularly as soloist and with ensembles, she is a member of Reanimation Orchestra and Burp Enterprise collective and broadcasts monthly on Colaboradio and on Reboot.fm.
