The performance work los anagramas was created especially for the exhibition The Passage of Amnesia by Laurie Schwartz, its title a reference to the anagrams and ideograms that pulse through Omar Barquet’s works. Using fragments from Francisco Hernandez’ poem Variaciones sobre el 5° melisma para Gunther Gerzso – an important source of inspiration for the show – the work expands upon the themes, sounds and movements referenced throughout the works on exhibit and was developed in close collaboration with dancers and vocalists Ana Kavalis and Citlali Huezo. los anagramas combines sound, text and choreography: transforming musical melismas into movement, dissolving syllables and fragments from the original Spanish text into extended vocalizations, with a third performer, Marjolein van der Meer, highlighting the enigmatic nature of the exhibition by interpreting the corresponding phrases in Dutch. The work concluded with a coda by Barquet, leading the audience to the final room, in a kind of ritual to animate the installation Relics (Bones, Cuts and Sinking) (for A. Barquet).
